Homeless?

Homeless?

Homelessness is more than living without a roof over your head.  It's living without a sense of belonging.  It's facing into every day without purpose.  It's living without any sense of safety.  I think many of us have felt like we didn't belong - at school, at work, even at home.  Or, we've felt that purpose for our lives was lacking.  We have certainly felt unsafe at times.  If we magnify those thoughts and feelings by 100% applying them to every day all of the time, we have come close to some of the derailing emotions that plague someone who is truly without a home.

Those of us who live in Northern VA just experienced an earthquake, a hurricane and flooding all within the course of two weeks.  Where do you go when you're homeless?   Who is there to help?

I am reminded that Jesus never had a place to lay his head.  He lived without a sense of belonging and I'm sure he felt every emotion you or I have ever felt when we are in danger.  But, Jesus never lived without a purpose.  His purpose was to give hope to the hopeless; strength to the powerless; salvation to the destitute...

Jesus was also crystal clear on the purpose of every human being who walks the face of this earth.  There is no one outside of his perview.  We are created for him and we are created to worship.  Every one of us will come face to face with the King of the Universe and cry out that HE alone is God.

Jesus calls us to care deeply about the needs of every human being. Everyone has basic physical needs that must be met. I am excited to be doing a concert on October 1 that will benefit the Lamb Center in Fairfax, VA because every man, woman or child on the streets of Northern VA matters.  We can help meet basic physical needs by giving to the Lamb Center.  We can also pray for the spiritual health of every person who walks through their doors.  May their eyes be opened to God's grand purpose for their lives.  May our eyes be open to give.  Yes!  We all are powerless to save ourselves, we all are poor in spirit.  Those of us who know him will all worship the King of Kings together in the age to come.  HALLELUJAH!!

The Message - Psalm 22:22-24, 29

Here's the story I'll tell my friends when they come to worship,
and punctuate it with Hallelujahs:
Shout Hallelujah, you God-worshipers;
give glory, you sons of Jacob;
adore him, you daughters of Israel.
He has never let you down,
never looked the other way
when you were being kicked around.
He has never wandered off to do his own thing;

he has been right there, listening.

…All the power-mongers are before him
—worshiping!
All the poor and powerless, too
—worshiping!
Along with those who never got it together
—worshiping!
